This is a free sewing pattern for a simplified women's hakama skirt.

Unlike traditional hakama, this design is intended for cosplay use and is made with the same pattern for the front and back to keep construction easy. It is a skirt-style hakama that simply “looks” like the real thing, so it is not suitable for creating authentic formal wear.

For cosplay costumes, however, this pattern is more than sufficient and easy to sew—even for beginners. The skirt is fastened with Velcro for a quick and simple finish.

The pattern is drafted slightly shorter than standard length, so please adjust the length as needed for your project.

After printing, align the join lines and cut along them. The pattern includes seam allowances (S/A), so it can be used immediately without additional adjustments.

How to make

The production process is explained with translation software.

If you have any suggestions on how to write like this, please let us know at info@dr-cos.com

We operate this site with your cooperation.

(1) Fold in the side 3fold part first.

* Fold the 3-fold side lines inward and sew them together with a sewing machine.

(2) Serge/overlock the sides, center and hem first.

* It is easier to shape the "Mountain fold" and "Valley fold" parts first.

(3) Sew the short and long pieces of the two body parts cut by "Dotted line to bend (cut two pieces)" at the center.

* The part sewn together will be the "Valley fold" part.

(4) Sew the front and back sides together and split them with an iron. Fold up the hem 0.5 inch (≈1cm) and sew it with a sewing machine.

(5) Iron on the "Mountain fold" and "Valley fold" and settle the Valley fold with stitching.

* If the material is difficult to shape with just the folds, either stitch the mountain fold as well, or iron adhesive thread into the material to settle the folds.

(6) Stitch the fusible interlining on one half of the "Koshiita", fold it in half, sew the sides together, turn it inside out, and stitch around the perimeter.

(7) Stitch the hakama body and the "Koshiita" between the "waistband" and the "Koshiita" and attach the Velcro.
