This is a sewing pattern and making guide for a Cossack hat (Russian-style hat).
It is not the type with ear flaps often seen on Russian hats, but rather a straight, cylindrical Cossack hat design.
Typically, Cossack hats are made slightly shorter, but this version was made longer based on a customer request referencing a “M—l hat” design.
If you prefer a shorter version, you can either adjust the pattern yourself or send us a request for a shorter Cossack hat version.
Although the pattern itself is simple and great as a base, the outer fabric and lining have separate pattern sizes, so the total number of pattern pieces is relatively large.
After printing, please join the sheets along the alignment lines, then cut out the pieces. Seam allowances are already included in the pattern, so you can use it as is.
(1) Apply hard fusible interfacing to the top lining and side lining.
* For the hem of the side lining, fold the hem allowance 1 cm to the inside and keep the fabric slightly lifted. This makes it easier to catch when blind stitching later.
* Use a hard type of fusible interfacing, such as the one used for bags.
(2) Sew the side lining pieces together to form a loop. Press the seam allowance open and topstitch along the seam.
(3) Sew the top lining and side lining together.
(4) Sew the side fur pieces together to make a loop, then sew the top fur pieces together.
(5) Place the hem of the side fur over the lining, fold the hem to the inside, and attach it to the lining with blind stitches.
