This is a free sewing pattern for a basic jinbei (traditional Japanese summer clothing), designed with seam allowances included for beginners.
The pants are made with an easy elastic waistband design, making them comfortable and simple to sew. Jinbei are perfect for summer festivals, as casual loungewear, or as lightweight pajamas when made with cool, breathable fabrics.
This pattern is especially recommended for hot summer days, and can also be adapted into samue (traditional work clothing) by lengthening the sleeves and pants.
If you need a fully authentic jinbei pattern, please refer to a traditional Japanese sewing reference book.
After printing, align the pages along the join lines, cut, and use the pattern directly since the seam allowances are already included.
The production process is explained with translation software.

(1) Turn over the string into a French seam and make it inside out first.
(2) Sew the back center line and serge/overlock it, then iron it to one side.
(3) Serge/overlock the sides and press seam allowances open with an iron after sewing from the open end to the sleeve end.
* When sewing the sides together, sew the strings to the attachment position.
(4) Serge/overlock the bottom and hem area from the collar attachment point, and iron fold and sew.
* At this time, also stop the seam at the open stop position.
(5) Fold both sides of the "Collar" by 0.5 inch (≈1cm) and sew it to the "Body" while pinching it with the "Collar" after the center line is folded first.
* When sewing the "Collar", insert the cord into the position where the cord is to be attached.
(6) Sew the sides of the "Sleeve" together, serge/overlock and iron down, sew the lower sleeve edge with a sewing machine with 3 folds, and serge/overlock the body side of the "Sleeve".
(7) Sew the "Sleeve" to the "Body".
(8) After sewing the "Inseam" to the body side of the pants, serge/overlock the seam allowance and iron it.
(9) Sew the hem of the pants with a sewing machine in 3fold.
(10) Sew the pants crotch together, serge/overlock and iron down.
* Sew the crotch twice.
(11) Sew a "belt" to the pants and thread the elastic inside.
