Frill Skirt Sewing Patterns | DRCOS Patterns & How To Make

This sewing pattern is for a two-tier frill skirt with a large frill attached to the skirt base.

The frill is not cut as a straight strip. It follows a curved circular line so that the shape of the skirt base is not distorted.

The skirt spreads beautifully when worn over a petticoat or pannier.

This pattern creates a silhouette that cannot be made with a straight frill.

Please use a 22 cm invisible zipper for this pattern.

After printing, align the pages along the guide lines, join them together, and cut out the pattern pieces. Seam allowances are included, so you can use the pattern as-is.

(1) Serge or overlock both side edges of the upper skirt body.

(2) Apply stay tape to the zipper attachment area on one side.

(3) Sew the zipper side seam up to the marked sewing stop position, then press the seam allowances open.

(4) Attach a 22 cm invisible zipper.

(5) Sew the opposite side seam, press the seam allowances open, and serge or overlock the lower edge of the skirt body.

(6) Serge or overlock both side edges of all four frill pieces. Sew the side seams together to form a ring, then press the seam allowances open.

(7) Serge or overlock the lower edge of the frill. Fold it up by 1 cm and stitch it with a sewing machine.

(8) Make the marked folds in the frill while serging or overlocking the upper edge of the frill.

(9) Stitch the frill to the lower edge of the upper skirt body.

*If the frill does not lie flat because of the fabric, press the seam allowances upward after sewing and topstitch from the right side to keep them in place.

(10) Apply fusible interfacing to the belt.

Preparation of belt section

(11) Fold each short side of the belt inward by 1 cm and press it with an iron.

(12) Fold the belt along the center line.

*When pressing the belt, let one inner edge extend about 1 mm beyond the other edge. This makes it easier to catch both layers when stitching.

(13) Sew both short ends of the belt, then turn the belt right side out.

(14) Align the belt with the marked basting position on the skirt and stitch it in place.

(15) Attach a hook-and-eye fastener or a button.
