This is a free sewing pattern and tutorial for a flat crown sailor hat.
The top of the hat features a circular, flat design for a classic sailor style. You can decorate the brim with a bias tape ribbon or other trims for a cute and personalized look.
This pattern is beginner-friendly and suitable for both everyday wear and costume use.
Once printed, cut along the join lines. The pattern already includes seam allowances, so it is ready to use without adding extra margins.
(1) Serge/overlock the side edges, sew them together, and press the seam allowance open with an iron.
(2) Sew the top to the side, press the seam allowance open with an iron, and topstitch the seam allowances flat.
(3) Trim off the extra seam allowance after pressing and topstitching.
(4) Apply fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the brim.
(5) Sew the outer and inner brim side seams into loops and press the seams open with an iron.
(6) Fold the edge to be sandwiched by 1 cm with an iron to shape it in advance.
(7) Sew the outer and inner brims together, turn it right side out, and press it flat with an iron.
(8) Sandwich the brim into the side and sew them together.
