This pattern is a garrison cap, known as a “funagata-bō” in Japan.
It was originally drafted some time ago when I received a request, and I re-drafted it again after taking the old paper out of storage.
For cosplay based on anime military uniforms, the caps are often worn in a smaller size placed lightly on the head. So please choose the size based on the look you want to create, rather than the actual head size.
I hope this pattern will be helpful as a reference when you make your own cosplay items.
After printing, match the joining lines, tape the pages together, and cut out the pieces. Seam allowances are already included, so you can use the pattern as it is.
(1) Serge/overlock the side edges, sew them together, and make a loop.
(2) Sew the brim pieces into loops (both pieces).
(3) Press the seams with an iron.
(4) Sew the top and the side together, then finish the edge.
(5) Sew the outer edges of the two brim pieces together and turn it right side out.
* Trim the seam allowance at this step, leaving about 2 mm.
(6) Sew the side and the brim together, finish the edge, and it is complete.
