This is a free sewing pattern for a mermaid dress, featuring a beautiful fishtail silhouette that flares out at the hem, similar to the shape of a mermaid’s tail. It is perfect for cosplay costumes, stage outfits, evening wear, and special events.
The pattern is drafted with a slightly relaxed fit, making it easier to sew and more comfortable to wear. For a more body-hugging, dramatic effect—such as for cosplay or formal occasions—you can adjust the lines to match your desired silhouette. We recommend making a test garment (toile) first and then tailoring the pattern to fit your body perfectly.
This design can be customized with various fabrics: stretchy knits for comfort, satin or taffeta for a formal look, or even glitter fabrics for a fantasy-style mermaid gown. If you want to enhance the flare at the hem, consider adding extra godets or using a stiffer fabric to create more volume.
After printing, align the sheets along the join lines, tape or glue them together, and cut out the pieces. Seam allowances (S/A) are already included, so the pattern can be used as is.
The production process is explained with translation software.
