This is a free sewing pattern and tutorial for a classic sailor hat.
The crown is made from four panels, creating a neat and structured shape. For added charm, you can decorate the brim with a bias tape ribbon or other trim.
This pattern is beginner-friendly and suitable for everyday wear or costume use.
Once printed, cut along the join lines. The pattern already includes seam allowances, so it is ready to use without adding extra margins.
(1) Sew two top pieces together, press the seam allowance open, and topstitch.
(2) Sew the remaining two top pieces together, press the seam allowance open, and topstitch.
(3) Sew the two half-circle parts together, press the seam allowance open, and topstitch.
(4) Apply fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the brim.
(5) Sew the outer and inner brim side seams into loops and press the seams open with an iron.
(6) Fold the edge to be sandwiched by 1 cm with an iron to shape it in advance.
(7) Sew the outer and inner brims together, turn it right side out, and press it flat with an iron.
(8) Sandwich the brim into the top and sew them together.
(9) Finish the raw edge of the seam allowance, fold it to the inside, and secure it with hat tape or similar.
