This is a free sewing pattern and tutorial for a large square-shaped poncho.
Large square poncho patterns are surprisingly hard to find, so this pattern was created as a simple and practical option. It can be used for everyday wear, costumes, or layering, depending on your fabric choice.
This pattern is designed as a reversible poncho, so please prepare two different outer fabrics. If you choose to make a single-layer version, finish the edges with a narrow hem or a double-fold hem using a sewing machine.
After printing, align the pages along the indicated join lines, tape them together, and cut out the pattern pieces. Seam allowances are already included in the pattern, so you can use it as-is without any adjustments.
* This pattern is designed as a reversible garment.
(1) For both pieces, fold the seam allowance around the neckline inward with an iron. Trim any tight or bulky areas so the neckline can lie flat.
(2) Sew around the outer edge of the garment, then turn it right side out through the neckline. Press with an iron, and secure the edge by sewing a line of stitching around the perimeter.
(3) Sew around the neckline with a sewing machine to finish.
