Long Tail Shirt Sewing Patterns | DRCOS Patterns & How To Make

This is a sewing pattern and tutorial for a long-tail shirt.

The sleeves are designed to become wider toward the cuff opening.

The body is drafted with a tight line, and the sleeves are drafted with a loose fit. Please use the pattern with this ease in mind.

The front opens and closes with an open-end zipper.

The pattern does not include lining pieces, but facing lines are included. You can also use these facing lines to make lining pattern pieces for a full lining.

This pattern is also useful as a base when making a shirt with a tight body line.

Simple sewing instructions are included on the pattern.

After printing, align the pages along the guide lines, paste them together, and cut out the pattern pieces. Seam allowances are included, so you can use the pattern as-is.

*Please press all sewn seams with an iron.

*If making a full lining, use the facing lines to make the lining pattern pieces.

(1) Finish the raw edges of the shoulders and side seams of the Front Bodice and Back Bodice. Also finish both side edges of the Front Bodice Side, Back Bodice Side, and Sleeves.

How to Serge/overlock (sewing machine & overlock sewing machine)

(2) Sew the side seams and shoulder seams of the Bodice. Press the seam allowances open. Finish the hem edge, then fold the hem up by 1 cm and press it with an iron.

(3) Apply fusible interfacing to the Facing, Collar, and Cuffs. Apply stay tape to the zipper position on the Front Bodice.

(4) Sew the Facing pieces together. Press the seam allowances open, then finish the outer edge.

(5) Fold the front zipper position of the Bodice and Facing inward by 1 cm and press it with an iron to shape it.

(6) Sew the Collar pieces together. Turn the Collar right side out and shape it with an iron so it is ready to be inserted.

*Before turning the Collar right side out, clip or trim the seam allowances in the areas where the fabric may pull.

(7) Place the Collar at the Collar position on the Bodice. Sandwich the Collar with the Facing and sew it in place. Fold the hem by 1 cm in the same way and stitch it in place.

How to sew Facing and Hem

*Keep the zipper section open.

(8) Attach the zipper to the zipper position.

(9) Sew the sleeve side seam and press the seam allowances open.

(10) Sew the Cuff and prepare it so it can be inserted.

How to sew sleeves and sleeve cuffs

(11) Insert the Cuff into the Sleeve and stitch it in place.

(12) Attach the Sleeve to the Bodice and finish the armhole edge.
