Covered Maxi Skirt Sewing Patterns | DRCOS Patterns & How To Make

This sewing pattern is for a maxi skirt with a separate cover skirt.

The main skirt section is designed mainly for synthetic leather and can be made with raw edges without edge finishing.

Please note that this is a long-length skirt.

Please use a 22 cm invisible zipper for this pattern.

After printing, align the pages along the guide lines, join them together, and cut out the pattern pieces. Seam allowances are included, so you can use the pattern as-is.

(1) Sew bias tape to both folded bias positions on the front of the cover skirt.

(2) Serge or overlock the side edges of the cover skirt, sew the side seams together, and press the seam allowances open.

(3) Sew bias tape to the marked edge-binding positions.

(4) Serge or overlock the center back edge and apply stay tape to the zipper position.

(5) Sew the center back seam up to the marked sewing stop position, then press the seam allowances open.

*If the bias tape at the center back hem is too thick to press open, open the seam allowances by hand and secure them with hand stitching.

(6) Attach the invisible zipper to the cover skirt.

*The following skirt instructions assume that synthetic leather is used, so there are no edge-finishing steps.

*If you use a material other than synthetic leather, serge or overlock the side edges.

(7) Serge or overlock the side edges of the three skirt pieces.

(8) Sew the side seams together and open the seam allowances, securing them with topstitching.

*One seam will become the center back zipper opening, so sew it only up to the marked sewing stop position.

(9) Sew the seam allowance of the skirt zipper opening to the zipper fold of the cover skirt.

*If this is difficult to sew with a sewing machine, hand stitching is also acceptable.

(10) Apply fusible interfacing to the belt.

Preparation of belt section

(11) Fold each short side of the belt inward by 1 cm (0.5 in) and press it with an iron.

(12) Fold the belt along the center line.

*When pressing the belt, let one inner edge extend about 1 mm beyond the other edge. This makes it easier to catch both layers when stitching.

(13) Sew both short ends of the belt, then turn the belt right side out.

(14) Align the belt with the marked basting position on the skirt, sandwich the skirt inside the belt, and stitch it in place.

(15) Attach a hook-and-eye fastener or a button.
