This is a free sewing pattern and tutorial for side-seam pumpkin pants (also known as balloon shorts or puff pants).
The simple construction method is included in the pattern itself. If you want more volume at the sides, you can separate the pattern pieces and adjust the lines accordingly.
The waistband uses tucks for added fullness, while the hem gathers create the rounded pumpkin shape. The waist is designed with a belt and zipper for a neat finish, but you can easily replace it with an elastic waistband for a simpler sewing process.
This pattern is drafted as standard outerwear pants, not as inner bloomers. If you need an inner style, you can adapt our drawers pattern for an easy modification.
Once printed, cut along the join lines. The pattern already includes seam allowances, so it is ready to use without adding extra margins.
The production process is explained with translation software.
