This is a free sewing pattern for a simple and stylish floppy hat, also known as a tulip hat or sun hat.
Designed with a soft brim and a rounded crown, this hat is perfect for everyday use, from casual outings to beachwear.
The pattern is beginner-friendly with easy sewing steps, making it suitable even for those who have just started sewing.
For a neat finish, add decorative topstitching around the brim. If using thin fabric, we recommend attaching fusible interfacing to the lining for better shape retention.
This versatile design can be made in various fabrics—cotton for summer, wool for autumn, or linen for a natural look.
After printing, align the join lines and cut along them. The pattern includes seam allowances (S/A), so it is ready to use as is.
* If the fabric is thin, apply fusible interfacing to the lining.
(1) Sew the side pieces together, press the seam allowance open with topstitching, and trim off the extra seam allowance.
(2) Sew the other side piece in the same way, press the seam allowance open with topstitching, and trim off the extra seam allowance.
* Make another set of these three sewn pieces.
(3) Place the three pieces with right sides together, sew them, press the seam allowance open with topstitching, and trim off the extra seam allowance.
* Repeat the same steps for the lining.
(4) With right sides together, sew the outer fabric and lining around the edge, and trim off the extra seam allowance.
* Leave an opening of at least 5 cm for turning.
(5) Topstitch around the edge to settle the shape.
