This is a free sewing pattern for a high-waist maid dress (Maid Type II), designed for school festivals, cultural events, cosplay, and themed parties. In Japan, maid cafés are a popular feature at school cultural festivals, and this version offers a slightly more advanced sewing challenge than the simplified type.
The design features a fitted bodice that accentuates the chest, combined with a waist seam and a full circular skirt for a beautiful, flowing silhouette. A petticoat (pannier) is essential to achieve the best volume and shape. The collar is a detachable type, and you can decorate it with gathered frills for extra charm.
This version includes patterns for the dress, apron, and oversized bow. The apron and bow attach with hook-and-loop (Velcro) fasteners for easy wear. Gathered frills are also included in the pattern, and they can be made entirely with a sewing machine. For easier edge finishing, a rolled hem presser foot is highly recommended, and for faster gathering, a gathering foot can be very useful.
If you own an overlock machine such as the Baby Lock "Eisoujin," using a separate presser foot makes it even easier to create beautiful gathered frills. Petticoat patterns and instructions are available for free, making it simple to complete the full outfit.
Before printing, please check the total number of pages as this is a large pattern set. After printing, align the sheets along the join lines, tape or glue them together, and cut out the pieces. Seam allowances (S/A) are already included, so the pattern can be used as is.
The production process is explained with translation software.

Sewing process of blouse
(1) Serge one side of each ruffle by rolled hemming.
(2) Gather each ruffle into a gathered section (ruffles for skirts are sewn together in a loop).
(3) Sew and iron down the "Front Bodice" and "Back bodice" darts.
(4) Apply fusible interlining to "facing", "ribbon core", "ribbon top parts", "Apron belt", "Collar stand", "Collar", and "shoulder strap".
(5) Sew "facing" together, press seam allowances open with an iron, and serge/overlock the outside.
(6) Serge/overlock the shoulders and sides of the "front bodice" and "back bodice", then sew them together and press seam allowances open with an iron.
(7) Serge/overlock the sides of "front skirt" and "back skirt", sew them together and press seam allowances open with an iron.
(8) Sew "body" and "skirt" together, Serge/overlock the seam allowance, and iron the seam allowance downwards.
(9) After Serge/overlocking the back center line of the zipper, sew to the Sewing end and press seam allowances open with an iron.
(10) Attach a stay tape at the zipper attachment point and attach the invisible zip.
(11) Sew the "facing", cut a slit at the tight seam allowance angle, turn the garment inside out, and iron it to settle it.
* If it is difficult to iron on the shape, sew around the perimeter with stitching stitches to get a nice finish.
(12) After serge/overlocking the hem, iron up 0.5 inch ≈1cm and sew the gathered ruffles.
(13) After Serge/overlocking the sides of the "Sleeve", sew the sides together and press seam allowances open with an iron after gathering in the gathering position.
(14) Sew the "Cuff" into a loop, and iron the center & seam allowance first to make a shape so that it can be easily tucked in.
(15) Sew the "Cuff" to the "Sleeve" while tucking the "Cuff" into the "Sleeve".
(16) Sew "Sleeve" to "Body" and Serge/overlock the seam allowance.
(17) Sew "Collar" together, make a cut in the seam allowance, turn inside out, and iron it into shape.
(18) Sew the "Collar stand" up to the collar attachment position while tucking in the "Collar", turn inside out and iron the remaining seam allowance with a fold stitch.
(19) Place each button & buttonhole position.
Sewing Process of Apron
(1) Tuck the gathered ruffles inwardly into the "apron lower part", tucking them in a little at a time and sewing them together.
(2) Cut a slit in the seam allowance of the "apron lower part", turn it inside out, and iron it to settle it.
* Instead of (1) and (2), you can fold in 0.5 inch (≈1cm) first and sew while tucking in the gathered ruffles.
(3) Fold in the two "Apron shoulder straps" (symmetrical) first with an iron and sew them together while tucking in the gathered ruffles.
(4) Insert "Apron shoulder strap" into "Apron top parts" while sewing them together.
(5) Iron on the "Apron belt" first, and sew it in place while tucking in the "Apron top parts" and "Apron shoulder strap".
(6) Sew the "Apron lower part" between the "Apron belt" and the "Apron belt".
(7) Sew the Velcro on the "Apron belt".
Ribbon sewing process
(1) Attach fusible interlining to "Ribbon top parts" and "Ribbon core".
(2) Turn "Ribbon top parts", "Ribbon lower part" and "Ribbon core" inside out to make a French seam.
(3) Turn the ribbon inside out from the open part, and iron the ribbon into shape.
* Turn over the open part and iron it into shape.
(4) Sew Velcro to the "Apron belt".
